The Arrow Motel was constructed with environmentally friendly principles in mind and is strongly committed to upholding best environmental practices in all environmental issues relating to sustainable management including water conservation, waste management, energy conservation and land/building use management.

As tangible evidence to the companies commitment to the ongoing maintenance and improvement in the environmental and social conduct of its operation, Arrow Motel is a founding member of the Nelson Sustainable Tourism Charter. The company has been one of the steering group members since its inception. The business benchmarked its operations with Greenglobe and continues to review its operations on a yearly basis. In 2009 Arrow Motel was one of the first accommodation providers in the country to be awarded Qualmark Enviro Gold, in Tourism New Zealand's Quality Assurance programme.
Arrow Motels has continued to be a major sponsor of 'ecofest' a regional festival held each year. The festival's main aim is 'making it easier being green'
Nelson and The Arrow
Arrow Motels are named after
the first European Ship to enter the (Wakatu) Nelson Haven..... and the
rock which carried its name. In her book ‘Landfall Nelson’ June Neale
records these words from the captain Arthur Wakefield - founder of Nelson ...
"The Arrow weighed anchor at 9.30am. Carried three fathoms over the flats, when we deepened to five fathoms when getting the rock on with the hollow in the cliffs. Then kept her in for the rock, wind very light and N.E . Entered the narrows and felt the tide strong ---threw her in stays and set in with the tide with her forefoot in two and a half fathoms on the spit, filled and kept her for the bight with all sail set anchored in 7 fathoms and moored....Fired a gun and gave three cheers, being the first vessel of any description which has entered a port which is anything but contemptible...."
